Photo: Cara MroczekWMU alumna, Cara Mroczek, BA 02, is a trial attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice, one of the largest litigating sections in the Department. The section works to protect public health and the environment from the adverse effects of pollution. They are responsible for the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Oil Pollution Act, RCRA, and the Superfund law (CERCLA).

After graduating with a BA in political science and environmental studies at WMU, Mroczek worked for a year for the City of Kalamazoo and the Fair Housing Center of Southwest Michigan before she began law school at Michigan State University. While in law school, Mroczek was a member of the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team and competed in Vienna, Austria. She also worked at the International Development Law Organization in Rome, Italy. Upon graduation from MSU, Mroczek was accepted into the Attorney General Honors Program at the US Department of Justice where she is currently now.

Mroczek continues to support WMU and regularly attends alumni events in the Washington DC area. Says Mroczek, “The experiences and educational opportunities I had at WMU and the Lee Honors College definitely inspired me to work in this legal position where I am able to use my public policy and environmental studies background, and actually see my progress made in protecting the earth’s resources. I am honored to be representing the United States and enforcing federal environmental laws, and I am proud to be a Bronco!”
