Media Studies
Since graduating in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Media Studies, Sharon Sprague has been very successful in the field of advertising. Years of radio and performance experience led her to a prestigious position right out of college as Creative Director for Fairfield Broadcasting in Kalamazoo. It was at Fairfield, that she won her first industry award. From there, Sharon fulfilled a life-long dream to work for Disney and landed a copywriting position in Walt Disney World’s marketing department in Orlando, Florida. She was building an impressive portfolio of work and was soon sought out by Universal Orlando to work in their advertising department. During her years at Universal, Sharon was heavily involved in TV, radio and print campaigns and was doing some of her best work to date.
After 3 years with Universal, Sharon took a position in a Denver, Colorado agency where she garnered more awards and the title of Senior Copywriter. It was also around this time that Sharon came up with the idea for her own comic strip – Pep! Comics (published in a few select papers and online at www.pepcomics.com). When a San Francisco toy company showed interest, Sharon jumped at the chance to help design toys. Her time in San Francisco was spent with both Wild Planet Toys and Leap Frog. Today, Sharon resides in beautiful Holland, Michigan and works for The Image Group as their Senior Copywriter.
Upon reflection of her career, Sharon stated, “I couldn’t be happier with how my life has turned out. I really found my calling while studying at WMU. I realized my creative potential and found an energy that drives me today. From writing to performing to drawing and more – I owe everything to the education I received.”
