Through this position she also served as the middle school dean of students and the new teacher mentor. As she taught and gained experience at the middle school, Tamekia also was studying to get her masters degree in curriculum and instruction at Eastern Michigan University. Tamekia completed this degree in 2005 and was promoted to assistant principal.

As assistant principal, Tamekia has been able to hold more influence over the education process than she did as a teacher. She is responsible for observing teachers and for helping to ensure that the students are receiving the best education possible. She also has been asked to act as a consultant for other schools within the National Heritage Academies system. Tamekia is currently working on a specialist degree at EMU in Educational Leadership and in 2005 she was nominated for Who’s Who among America’s Teachers.
